Purpose… Protection… Surely

Good Morning Beloved,

Happy Friday! I woke up this morning with 2 words on my heart ‘purpose and protection’. As I was looking up those words in the bible, another word leaped off the page… “surely”…

  1. But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. Exodus 9:16
  2. “God is mighty, but does not despise men; he is mighty, and firm in his purpose. Job 36:5
  3. The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. Psalm 33:10
  4. But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. Psalm 33:11
  5. I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills {his purpose} for me. Psalm 57:2
  6. The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O LORD, endures forever— do not abandon the works of your hands. Psalm 138:8
  7. Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21
  8. The purposes of a man’s heart are deep waters, but a man of understanding draws them out. Proverbs 20:5
  9. [ A Prophecy Against Assyria ] The LORD Almighty has sworn, “Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will stand. Isaiah 14:24
  10. For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back? Isaiah 14:27
  11. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please. Isaiah 46:10
  12. From the east I summon a bird of prey; from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose. What I have said, that will I bring about; what I have planned, that will I do. Isaiah 46:11
  13. “Come together, all of you, and listen: Which of the idols has foretold these things? The LORD’s chosen ally will carry out his purpose against Babylon; his arm will be against the Babylonians. Isaiah 48:14
  14. But I said, “I have labored to no purpose; I have spent my strength in vain and for nothing. Yet what is due me is in the LORD’s hand, and my reward is with my God.” Isaiah 49:4
  15. so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:11
  16. The LORD said, “Surely I will deliver you for a good purpose; surely I will make your enemies plead with you in times of disaster and times of distress. Jeremiah 15:11
  17. great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds. Your eyes are open to all the ways of men; you reward everyone according to his conduct and as his deeds deserve. Jeremiah 32:19

Jeremiah 15:11 stands out to me this morning because God has said something that woke me this morning….. He said “surely”. The God of all flesh… the Supreme, all-knowing, all-powerful, all wise God said “I will deliver you”….. He didn’t stop there, but He added “for a GOOD purpose”. That is beyond words. God loves me (and you), and He has a plan for my life (and yours). So, it really doesn’t matter how difficult the task may seem, He said “surely”. It doesn’t matter whether or not I currently have the resources, He said “surely”. It doesn’t matter who likes me or who doesn’t like me— who is willing to go with me or not willing to go with me, my God said “surely”. He is One who does not make promises He can’t keep. He will protect us, remember “For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways (Psalm 91:11).

For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day (2 Timothy 1:12)

Cartoonist’s Comment:

Here is the verse in context. It is quite a promise from God’s Word.

If you make the Most High your dwelling—even the LORD, who is my refuge- then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. – Psalm 91: 9-12 NIV (CARTOON AND CARTOONIST COMENTS REPRINTED Mike Waters
