God’s Escape Route

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Good Morning Beloved,
Happy Friday! 
“God will provide a way of escape”… What a blessing! It is so good to know that no matter what temptation may come my way…. there is a way of escape. Temptation doesn’t just come in the form of a person either. Sometimes we may be tempted to say something that we know we should not say. There are many times when a word is on the tip of my tongue and I’ll have a thought that says, “uh-uh… don’t say that”. On a good day I catch it
. Sometimes I have known to say, “num..num..num..num..num”.. my quirky way of swallowing that word… or words
. As long as we reside on planet earth, we will have areas in need of tweaking and improvement. In God all bases are covered. He gives us the strength to stand against evil, and He give us grace, mercy and forgiveness when we blow it. Lest we forget, we do have an enemy of our souls who is insanely jealous of us, and our standing with the True and Living God. If he can’t destroy us, he will try to get us to destroy ourselves. Remember the story of Balaam and Balak (Numbers 22). Long story short… Balaam was a man of God and Balak a representative of a people group who were afraid of the Children of Israel. He felt they were too powerful and posed a danger to his people so he purposed in his mind to destroy them with a curse. He was going to pay Balaam for this ‘service’. Balaam had sense enough to go to God, but not enough to recognize that his alliance with Balak was unholy and just plain wrong. He seriously tried to help the enemy of God’s people destroy God’s people…. and he tried to use God to do it. (doesn’t that happen today … people trying to kill other people for the sake of religion and swearing they’re right). God was very patient with His prophet. Balaam could have been killed on the spot for what he was trying to do to God’s Beloved. God even went so far as to open the mouth of Balaam’s donkey and release her to try and talk some sense into the man. In the end, Balak got what he wanted. Balaam informed him that, while he could not curse what God has blessed, if the people could be persuaded to sin, they would in effect bring a curse upon themselves. We are blessed with the benefit of this story and countless others of God’s sovereignty, His patience, His love. These lessons, when we take them to heart will cause the favor and blessing of God to saturate our own lives.

Grateful for Freedom!

Good Morning Beloved,
Tomorrow we celebrate Independence Day …America’s “Birthday”. It started me thinking of freedom and liberation. Freedom of a nation…. freedom of a people…. freedom of an individual. Even in 2008, freedom is a foreign concept to many. They have no idea what it is like to speak out against injustice, and not be beaten, arrested, tortured or killed. In 2008 there are people being bought and sold into slavery. Children sold, maimed and killed. We are blessed. Freedom. Freedom has a cost, and comes with great responsibility, but it is our most valuable treasure. Our responsibility at the very least should be…. appreciation. Many of our children cannot truly appreciate our freedom, because they do not personally know of anything different. When I was in school, we were inundated with books, and films that taught of our history. We learned that we live in a free society, that it was not always the way that it is now, and that while not perfect, our nation has come a long way. Even in this age of mass media. People are detached … as though, while they see what is happening in other places, it does not affect them or their lifestyle. The images shown are like watching another reality television show. I really appreciate being free today. I appreciate all those who gave up their freedom, and even their very lives, so that I could live and be free. Remember this…

I appreciate the ability to fuss about the high cost of fuel without someone kicking in my door. Besides, if I did not own a car and a house, if I did not shop for food and groceries, I would not have any reason to complain about oil prices
. I appreciate my freedom to live, work, drive, eat, travel, be educated, anywhere I desire. Most importantly, I am grateful for my greatest liberty…. a free spirit reconnected to God. “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed“. (John 8:36). All other freedoms we enjoy, can be traced back to this one single act in human history. Our foundation as a nation is intrinsically connected with the God of the bible, His laws… His statutes… His compassion… His grace… His favor… His love.

I don’t know if anyone ever really escaped from a prison by smuggling in a file hidden inside a cake. But it makes a good illustration of how when we share the Gospel with people, we are giving them the means to their own escape from sin and death.
