Steering In The Right Direction

Good Morning Beloved,

This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!

I heard something yesterday that caught my attention.  A news reporter gave safety tips for driving in the snow.   One of the tips was to look where you want to go.  If you don’t want to go into the tree, keep your eyes off of the tree.  His premise was that you will go where your eyes are looking.  That stuck with me and this morning I thought, “ummph… that’ll preach”.  Where our eyes go, our bodies will follow.  Whatever we dwell on will eventually take on life become a reality.  If our mind is on McDonald’s fries, it won’t be long before our legs carry us to McDonald’s.  No one has ever “accidently” had an affair just coming out of the 7 eleven with a Slurpee.  It started off as a thought, some sort of plan… a break-down somewhere.  If we can keep our train of thought from getting ‘derailed’, we can keep ourselves out of a whole lot of trouble.  It is the holiday season and many people are traveling all over to spend some time with family and friends.  Not everyone has as wonderful a relationship with their family as I do.  I know that I am extremely blessed with a great bunch of folks.  Everybody doesn’t have that testimony.  Some are dreading the time they are about to spend with their people.  For them, one day is way too long… two days is misery… three days torture!  Wonder what would happen if they changed their prospective on the situation.  Instead of looking at it as a chore and a duty, why not look at it as a way to start over.  To enjoy them in all of their oddities and idiosyncrasies.  Time is flying and all we have is right now.  Family members are at war over stuff that happened back in the 80’s.  If the thing can be changed … change it, if not let it go.  Life is too short.  Forgiveness is another powerful weapon in our holy arsenal.  If Jesus could forgive those who nailed Him to the cross, surely you can forgive your sister for stealing your boyfriend back in high school… I’m just sayin’.  Just think of all of the recent deaths, young and old.  People who had gone Christmas shopping, gifts from them to their loved ones lying under the tree.  Folks with presents under the Christmas tree who will not be here to open them.  The verse tells us in essence to walk straight, so that others who are weak can walk straight.  Somebody is looking to us to see how to put legs to this Christian walk.  They need to see a real live sure ’nuff honest to goodness flesh-n-blood person love their spouse and honor their marriage vows.  They need to see someone with a well-adjusted state of mind, a good work ethic, a kind and generous spirit that reflects the love of Christ who walks in honesty and integrity.  That may seem to be a tall order… well … it is, but God’s Word assures us that, “we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us”

…. that Beloved… is Good News!

Breach of Security

Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?
[Proverbs 6:27-28]

“BREACH OF SECURITY”

Good Morning Beloved,

A few years ago, I went with a friend to home depot.  On my way out, the alarm sounded.  I looked at the security guard… he looked at me.  It was summer time and I had on a tee shirt, stretch pants and sandals (hey we were at the home depot ;0).  I went through several times before someone suggested I look at my feet.  Sure enough a sensor was stuck to my shoe.  The guard told me that he had wondered what was going on … I didn’t even so much as have a purse.  That little bitty piece of plastic told on me.  As small as it was, it created a sound that could be heard not only all over the store, but the parking lot as well.  I had ‘breached security’.  We have a similar mechanism in us.  The Holy Spirit.  The greatest Power in the universe… the power that created everything in eternity, adapted Himself to fit into our tiny frames!  Remarkable… mind-blowing.  Even more astounding, He has the power to turn us into a grain of salt if He wanted to, yet He respects our free-will so much that He will allow us to do what we want… even to our detriment sometimes.  His gentle voice warns us when we’re about to say or do something we shouldn’t.  He will minister to our heart and mind when we’re about to cross the line.  Reminding us in a split second of the fact that there are consequences for each and every action… good and bad. There are those who ask why God can’t stop war, famine, disease… well, He can. I always want to ask that person, why didn’t God stop you from cheating on your spouse, cursing out the people on the highway, lying on your taxes, and stealing that grape from the produce department.  Seems like certain folks like to pull out that old argument, but when they open that box a whole lot more falls out than they anticipated.  They have one finger pointed at God, but the other four are pointed back at them.  They would say, “yeah, but those are little things, they don’t mean much”We judge situations on that scale… God’s scale is different… stealing is stealing.  That grape may not mean much to you, but it is worth something to the store.  What if everyone who entered the store that day took one grape… how many would be left at the end of the day?  It is a heart issue… no matter the size of the infraction. The blessed part is that through it all… bottom line… God still has His Hand on the control… humanity would have completely annihilated itself by now otherwise.

Remember ~

There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but GOD is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.

[1Corinthians 10:13]

Heavenly security from on high… greatest safety and protection we will ever need … eternal and free!

Lost In The House

Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

‘Lost In The House’

Good Afternoon Beloved,

Recently I’ve been an outside observer of  “Christians Behaving Badly”.  Now, granted, not everyone who sits in a pew is a Christian, but there are some bonified-blood bought believers who have issues.  Some are as mean as a rattle-snake, others are as slick and slippery as an eel.  Some are as stubborn as a mule, while others are as flighty as a bird.  Everyone has ‘issues’, but the problem with these folks, is that they have made their issues, everybody elses’.  Going through tough situations does not give one a free pass to run rough-shod over everybody.  It is a terrible thing to be lost in the household of faith.  To be in church where the Word is proclaimed, and to leave in the same state of anger and confusion.  It is possible to be in a back-slidden state and attend church every Sunday.  The Bible tells of those who have a “form of Godliness but deny the power thereof” (2 Timothy 3:5).  Another beautiful part of God’s Character, is that He made a way of escape from that state of mind too.  God said that He is “married to the backslider” (Jeremiah 3:14).  When God says that He is married, it is not like some of the folks in pop culture today.  It is not ’til death do us part’, because in Him there is no death.  Just a passing from one life to another life.  Through Jesus’ sacrifice we are eternally connected to God.  If we choose to walk away from Him, He allows us that choice… but who in their right mind would want to?  People all over the world are trusting in Jesus as their Lord and Savior.  Millions are coming into the family of God.  It is up to us to keep our hand in the God’s hand so that they can come into a loving and safe atmosphere to be taught God’s Word.  A place where they can learn to love God and find out how much God loves them.  A place where someone who has lost their way, can find their way back to God.  The blessing is that even though God is never still, He never moved and to those who seek Him, He promises to be found by them.

Grace In Action

One day David asked, “Is anyone in Saul’s family still alive—anyone to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” He summoned a man named Ziba, who had been one of Saul’s servants. “Are you Ziba?” the king asked. “Yes sir, I am,” Ziba replied. The king then asked him, “Is anyone still alive from Saul’s family? If so, I want to show God’s kindness to them.”  Ziba replied, “Yes, one of Jonathan’s sons is still alive. He is crippled in both feet.” “Where is he?” the king asked. “In Lo-debar,” Ziba told him, “at the home of Makir son of Ammiel.” So David sent for him and brought him from Makir’s home. His name was Mephibosheth; he was Jonathan’s son and Saul’s grandson. When he came to David, he bowed low to the ground in deep respect. David said, “Greetings, Mephibosheth.” Mephibosheth replied, “I am your servant.” “Don’t be afraid!” David said. “I intend to show kindness to you because of my promise to your father, Jonathan. I will give you all the property that once belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will eat here with me at the king’s table!” Mephibosheth bowed respectfully and exclaimed, “Who is your servant, that you should show such kindness to a dead dog like me?” Then the king summoned Saul’s servant Ziba and said, “I have given your master’s grandson everything that belonged to Saul and his family. You and your sons and servants are to farm the land for him to produce food for your master’s household.  But Mephibosheth, your master’s grandson, will eat here at my table.” (Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.) Ziba replied, “Yes, my lord the king; I am your servant, and I will do all that you have commanded.” And from that time on, Mephibosheth ate regularly at David’s table, like one of the king’s own sons. Mephibosheth had a young son named Mica. From then on, all the members of Ziba’s household were Mephibosheth’s servants. And Mephibosheth, who was crippled in both feet, lived in Jerusalem and ate regularly at the king’s table.

[2 Samuel 9]

‘GRACE IN ACTION’

Good Afternoon Beloved,

I hope your weekend was a blessed as mine was.  My family and friends really made my birthday special.  I love the story of David. He was an interesting person.  I’ve talked about him before, but today I thought about another relatively unknown character… Mephibosheth.  He was the only son of David’s best friend Jonathan.  Remember, they were like brothers.  Jonathan had not only spoke over David’s life and told him that God had given the kingdom to him, but he had also saved David’s life.  He even commented that he would serve with David when David took over the throne.  Sadly, Jonathan died in battle alongside his father Saul and two of his brothers.  After David was firmly situated as king, he asked if there was any of Saul’s people left that he could bless.  That was a strange request seeing that any of Saul’s descendants could have fought for control over the throne.  They could have killed David and his followers.  David was told about Jonathan’s son.  Mephibosheth was basically living in poverty and fear.  His grandfather Saul had commanded that 85 priests and their families be killed when he was searching for David.  Their crime?  Not telling Saul which way David went.  Only one of priests’ son escaped, and David promised to take care of him for the rest of his life… which he did.  God caused a famine to come upon the land because of it.  David approached the Gibeonites and asked them what he could do to make it right with them.  They decided they wanted the death of seven of Saul’s sons (thank God for our new covenant of grace and mercy) and David complied (1 Samuel 22:16-19) … but he saved Jonathan’s son.  Now, it doesn’t appear that Mephibosheth knew any of this.  Can you imagine the fear he lived in when his grand-daddy’s kids were killed?  He must have thought that his days were numbered… that David was coming to get him too.  Can you imagine how he felt the day that he was summoned into David’s presence?  Probably unimaginable terror.  He couldn’t run … he was lame on both of his feet.  He had no power chair to get around.  Life had to have been very difficult for him.  This is where the story gets interesting… instead of killing him, David tells him that because of his friendship with his daddy, that he was going to take care of him.  WOW!  Grace in action.  Not only that, but he restored to Mephibosheth all of the property that belonged to Saul’s family, and charged Saul’s servant Ziba and his family to take care of it for Mephibosheth.  I love this story because it gives such a powerful example of God’s love working through a real live flesh and blood person.  Everyday we are challenged with all sorts of decisions.  People that have talked about us, double-crossed us you name it.  The test of the child of God is what we do when we have an opportunity to really ‘get them’.  David could have exacted revenge on Saul’s whole lineage for all the years that Saul tormented him.  They were a part of his kingdom now, and he could have really made them suffer, but he chose to honor his commitment to Jonathan and bless his son.  Mephibosheth did absolutely nothing to deserve the enormous favor that was poured out on him… it was all because of his father… hmmm… that sounds familiar… everything we receive is because of our Father…. isn’t that something?

… now that Beloved is Good News!

‘TESTIFY’

Written by FAVORED1 on September 3, 2009 – 9:15 am -

Holy Bible: Genuine Soul Food

Thursday, September 3, 2009

Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens,  “It has come at last—salvation and power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth— the one who accuses them before our God day and night. And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb
and by their testimony.  And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die. Therefore, rejoice, O heavens! And you who live in the heavens, rejoice! But terror will come on the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you in great anger knowing that he has little time.”

[Revelation 12:10-12]

“Testify”

Good Morning Beloved,

The Bible is the living, breathing testimony of an all wise, all knowing, all powerful God.  He looked down throughout the ages and placed snapshots of human history on paper.  One writer in speaking of the acts of Jesus said that: And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.   [John 21:25]

Testimony is powerful.  In a court of law it could mean the difference between someones freedom and their imprisonment.  The same is true in life in general.  Someone else could be in a prison which we’ve already been freed from.  We have the key and we need to share it with them.  If we’ve been delivered from anything, God can use that very thing to bring deliverance to other people.

Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. [1 Corinthians 6:9-11 NLT]

Testimony can also be used to give somebody hope.  To let them know that no matter the difficulty and struggle, God is still able.  A single mom needs to know that these days of diapers, missed buses, financial problems, doctors’ appointments, report cards, phone calls, meetings with teachers, sickness, penny pinching, chauffeuring, tears, strong willed little darlins’, and yelling will be over all too soon.  They need to see that on the other side, they will actually miss some of the darnedest things.  Telling someone our testimony has another side benefit.  As we tell others what God has done in our life in the past, it actually strengthens our faith that if He brought me through that ( … pause… praise break… HALLELUJAH!!!)

… He WILL bring us through whatever it is that we are in the midst of now!

…. and THAT Beloved is Good News!

Archery Tournament
-Romans 3:23,24

Jesus is the only person whose arrow has ever hit the target of God’s standard of righteousness. If put our faith in Jesus, God counts our arrow the same as if it were Jesus’ arrow.
October 12, 2008

Good Morning Beloved,

Romans 3:23 has been the source of many a serious debate.  Some feel that it gives people license to sin (as if they really needed one).  I believe that the closer we become to Jesus… the more space He takes up in our heart, the more like Him we will become.  Have you ever noticed when people hang with each other a lot, after a while they start looking and sounding alike; sometimes finishing each others sentences.  That is what happens with us.  It is a unique paradigm, God treasures our individuality and our differences, but our heart is changing to look like Jesus.  Our faith and trust in God, our love and concern for others, our integrity, our boldness are all traits found in Jesus, that God is cultivating in us.  It is a lifelong project that we are privileged to share with our Heavenly Father.  I heard someone say, “but God is a God a wrath too”.  Yes, He is.  No doubt about that, just take a little stroll through the pages of scripture, and you will see that God can get very angry.  Thank God for Jesus.  Mediator between God and humanity.  I like the picture of God as Judge and Jesus as the defense attorney.  When the accuser of the brethren lodges his case against us (some of which is true by the way), if we confess our sins and throw ourselves on the mercy of the court, the defense attorney rolls up His sleeves and shows the court the nail scars…case dismissed…the debt was paid in full!

… and that my Royal Sibling is Good News!

U Blessed

Have A Fabulous Day

Jesus and Zacchaeus
Jesus entered Jericho and made his way through the town.  There was a man there named Zacchaeus. He was the chief tax collector in the region, and he had become very rich.  He tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd.  So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way.  When Jesus came by, He looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” He said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.” Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy.  But the people were displeased. “He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,” they grumbled. Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!” Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”

Luke 19:1-10

Good Morning Beloved,

The foundation of the Gospel.  Jesus came to seek and save that which was lost.  I love this story.  This man was very rich….. most likely by ill gotten means.  The tax collectors of that day were notorious in their crooked dealings with the children of Israel.  The people had no recourse and were basically at their mercy. Tax collectors were hated by the people, so when this new “Rabbi”.. Jesus… announced that He was going to this man’s house, it must have sent shock waves through the crowd.  A Holy Man in a sinners house!  People are people, and not much has changed in the way of entertaining guests.. especially those who we hold in great esteem.  If we knew that the mayor of our city were coming to dinner, can you imagine the preparation that would go into that meal.  The house would be spotless, we’d break out the ‘good’ china, and everybody would have on their best manners, as well as clothes.  There would probably be cameras, and we would not want to be embarrassed.  We would also feel honored that they chose to come to our house.  Jesus was the ‘in’ person.  Multitudes followed Him to see what He would do next. Any one of them would have gladly hosted Him in their houses for bragging rights.  This thieving tax collector’s heart was touched and Jesus knew it.  He knew that this man was ready for a change.   The man climbed a tree to see Jesus.  Think of a man in a suit that cost thousands, expensive shoes, exclusive one of kind jewelry, Cartier watch, the best fragrance designed especially for him…. quality from head to toe… climbing a tree, just to get a better look at Jesus.  What will we do to see Jesus?….. The beauty of this story is the picture I see of Jesus looking up at this little man whose clothes were probably torn and disheveled, smiling and inviting Himself in to this man home.  We have the same smile from Jesus, and the same invitation from Him to come into our ‘home’…..

…. and that right there is Good News!

U Blessed,

Have A Fabulous Day

Balanced Weights…

False weights and unequal measures, the Lord detests double standards of every kind.

Proverbs 20:10

Good Morning Beloved,

Happy Monday!

A desire for Justice… one of the many traits we inherited from our heavenly Father.  We become frustrated, and some have lost hope because of feelings of injustice.  I don’t think we realize how much God hates injustice.  In the end the ’scales’ will be balanced.  No matter what it looks like from our perspective, no one ‘gets away’ with anything.  I was frustrated by a situation, where someone, (I feel) duped a friend out of their hard-earned money.  I never felt ‘right’ about this venture, but they believed this deal was God-sent, and I left it alone.  Nearly one year later, they have virtually nothing to show for their investment (they were promised fantastic results, and the product was supposed to ’sell itself’). What angered me was that those who approached my friends, were people they trusted.  People they believe (to this day) are looking out for their best interest. The weights will be balanced.  People all around us are eaten up with bitterness over something someone has done to them or someone they love.  They spend their lives in turmoil over the wrong, and feeling angry and helpless to make it right.  We are presented with two choices… cast that care to God and trust that He will handle it, or keep it and let it destroy us, make us miserable and possibly miss what God has for us.  Someone once said that unforgiveness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.  Remember the Serenity Prayer:

God grant me the

Serenity to accept the things I can not change

Courage to change the things I can and

Wisdom to know the difference.

Contrary to popular belief…. that is not a scripture from the bible.  It is, however, a good thought to remember.  As Deitrick Hadden so poignantly stated (http://www.thefaithspot.com/videos/id_1409/)…..

HEAVEN KNOWS

Dietrick Hadden

“7 Days”

Verse 1:
The homeless is still homeless, the poor is still poor,
yet we find billions of dollars to fund senseless wars.
And yes, we’re fighting terrorism,
what about the quiet racsim,
divided among ourselves, somebody’s crying for help.

Chorus:
Heaven is listening (listening),
Heaven is watching (watching),
Heaven knows (knows).

Verse 2:
And they may not play this on the radio,
’cause the devil don’t want you to know,
if we don’t stop the hypocrisy, the nation will lose it’s soul.
They’d rather play music money and sex,
like we don’t have no intellect.
somebody need to show us some respect,
’cause God is not through with us yet.

Chorus

Bridge:
(Heaven knows), Heaven knows the preachers that’s not preachin’.
(Heaven knows) and Heaven knows the teachers that’s not teachin’,
(Heaven knows) Heaven knows the politicians that’s stealing
(Heaven knows) Heaven knows the ones that are out there killing.

(Oh Heaven knows) that the world needs a revival
(Heaven knows) that we’ve walked away from the Bible,
(Heaven knows) Heaven knows that the world needs healing
(Heaven knows) that somewhere we’ve lost our feeling.

Chorus

A hot mess….. but in the end… VICTORY!

Good Morning Beloved,

It is gorgeous out there!  What a beautiful morning DC/Metro, try to get out and enjoy some of that today.  This morning’s thought is a little different. Most of you know the biblical account of Jacob, Rachel and Leah.  Now you are going to have to take off your US 2008 mindset for this one.  We don’t generally sanction marrying close relatives.  It is still taboo in our culture, however, it has not always been so in other cultures.  Well, Jacob, being pursued by his brother Esau after taking his birthright, was sent by his mother Rebekkah to her brother Laban.  Jacob fell in love with Laban’s daughter Rachel and asked to marry her.  Laban said sure, no problem, I would love for you to marry my daughter, but I’m going to need for you to work seven years for me as a bride-price.  Jacob agreed and the bible says that the seven years seemed as a few days “for the love he had for her”.  When it came time to claim his bride, old slick Laban pulled a ’switch-a-roo’ on the trickster Jacob, and gave him his other older daughter, cross-eyed Leah.  Jacob was about to go off, so Laban told him that if he work for him another seven years, he could have Rachel also.  Jacob agreed (can you tell, he really wanted that woman).  This set the stage for years of drama, strife and pettiness.  Can you imagine Rachel’s anger at her sister and her father…. they ’stole’ my man!… and it was nothing she could do about it… there were no women’s rights.  Can you imagine Leah’s pain… unwanted, unloved and resented.  Can you see Jacob.  His relationship with God was strengthening, but he had the mentality of a con man that God had to deal with.  I believe he probably thought that this situation was ‘payback’ for how he had deceived his brother.  The poor children that were born into this fiasco probably felt like pawns.  Kids are very smart, they knew what was going on.  Leah’s kids knew that their daddy tolerated their mother, and when Rachel finally had Joseph, everyone knew that he was the golden child.  If this wasn’t bad enough, the two women involved their two servants in the mess…more children, more drama.. more jealousy… more bitterness and anger.  This situation came to a head when the brothers decided to sell Joseph to Midianite traders and tell their father that they didn’t know what happened… maybe he was eaten by wild animals in the field.  We have a great advantage over Joseph, Jacob, Rachel, Leah, the brothers, Pharaoh and everybody else in this saga..that story happened and has been recorded and we know how it ended.  The people involved had no clue what was really going on behind the scenes.  The did not know that God purposed and orchestrated all of the chain of events.  He used their every screw-up to work for their ultimate good and survival.  God knew a worldwide famine was coming and he already had a man for the job — Joseph— but Brother Joseph had to be trained and prepared for the monumental task God had afforded him.  Everywhere he went from home to Potiphar’s house to prison, all the way to the palace, his MO never changed.  He was trained, he worked hard, and was eventually given free reign over the task, because his integrity had earned him the trust of those over him.  The same is true for us.  Once God sees He can trust us, there is no limit to what we can accomplish… no matter how ‘jacked up’ the past has been or the present may be… there is victory in our future.  Trust God.

U Blessed,

Have A Fabulous Day!
