Good Morning Beloved,

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

Sometimes the simplest truths are the most profound. With so much swirling around us, we can forget our staunchest ally and our closest friend… Jesus. Didn’t He say He would “never leave nor forsake us“? He is that Friend that “sticketh closer than a brother“. He our Rock. We can lean on Him. He will never break under pressure.. pressure has to bow before His Holiness. There is no “thing” on earth that can separate us from the love of God. Even if we walk away from Him, His position never changed. Call Him. During our good days we should call Him… to thank Him for them. During our not-so good days we should call Him.. praising Him in advance for the way through. Know that He will sustain us, no matter what is happening. Sometimes we can get overwhelmed by GOOD STUFF! So many blessings coming so fast, I believe the Bible calls that being “overtaken by blessings“. Don’t laugh. When what we’ve prayed for suddenly shows up, sometimes we don’t know what to DO with it. We question it. “Is this really God or is the enemy trying to trick me”. Ever notice some of the greatest miracles occur in our life when we feel we deserve them the least? Maybe we’ve fallen short in an area, or have been lacking in something. We may not have prayed like we felt we should.. read our Bible like we know we should.. fasted.. witnessed or encouraged anybody… led a soul to our beautiful Savior. Our hearts and other people condemn us, when we’ve “walked after the flesh”. God’s solution is simple ~ walk after the Spirit. There… problem solved.. NO condemnation. Sounds good Regina, how do we do that? There is no easy answer. Moment by moment decisions for righteousness, quick repentance when we fall short. God’s grace is sufficient for whatever is going on in our lives. Every moment we are presented with choices.. to do right or to do wrong. Sometimes, the waters are a little murky. The thing may not be inherently wrong, just not right for us. One person may be able to drink a glass of wine, but for the person who struggled with alcoholism, it may not be a good idea. The Holy Spirit who dwells in us is our guide, to lead us in the way we should go. He is our enabler that gives us the strength to do what is right. He is our teacher that gives us the knowledge we need to navigate through the sea of life. He is our comforter, that rises up in our spirit and applies a soothing balm to our soul after we have “blown it’ big time, or our heart is broken. Call Him. Jesus said that He will answer us when we call.

The cross is the fulfillment of the promise God made to Adam and Eve generations before. It was a promise that they passed down to their children and their children’s children. God promised them a Savior. He promised them an Advocate between God and man. He promised them that the connection that was breached between man and God would be repaired and restored. No longer would they have to use the blood of animals to atone for their sins. Their sins would be forgiven… forever by the completed work of Jesus. Where there once was an insurmountable gulf between us.. we are now able to “… come boldly to the Throne of Grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. [Hebrews 4:16]. The Way has been made, the table set, and we are not just allowed access into the presence of God, but gladly welcomed in it!

WASHINGTON, Oct. 5 /Christian Newswire/ – 50,000 people, Africans and Americans alike, are expected to descend upon the Capitol West Mall in Washington DC on Saturday, October 16, 2010 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and participate in Africa Prays For America, a unique and unprecedented prayer gathering hosted by the African Strategic Leadership Prayer Network (www.aslpn.org).

African Strategic Leadership Prayer Network (ASLPN), an assembly of African Christian leaders from around the world, is a non-profit Christian charitable organization dedicated to prayer and intercession. The ASLPN said, “We are coming, leaders and lay people, we are coming from dozens of African Nations, we are coming 50,000 strong to petition heaven in unity. We, African believers, call all Christians to join us on October 16 to pray for America. May our light never go out.”

Billy Wilson, Executive Director of the Awaking America Alliance (www.awakeningamerica.us) said, “For hundreds of years, America has been sending missionaries to Africa. Passionate men and women gave their lives to reach souls thousands of miles away and continue to bring the gospel to millions in that heartland. But now, America’s light grows dim and it is Africa’s time to reach out and pray for America.” Wilson continued, “We are grateful for the African Nations response to America’s spiritual need and deeply encouraged by their desire to bring Christians together to intercede on behalf of America through prayer.”

Pastor Michael Dada from Deeper Life Bible Church (www.deeperlifedc.org) in Washington, DC, said, “The nation of America has been a blessing to almost every other nation under heaven at the peak of her glory. The poor and the weak, both as a nation and as individuals have all taken refuge under her protective wings.

“My church and I have decided to join Africa Prays for America,” Pastor Dada continued, “because we believe that God will have mercy and restore the spiritual, political, economic and social status of America for His glory. (Haggai 2:9) ‘The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.’”

ASLPN invites every tribe, every community, every church and every city to participate in Africa Prays for America on October 16, 2010.

Bishop Darlingston Johnson, Senior Pastor of Bethel World Outreach Church and Presiding Prelate of Bethel World Outreach Ministries International (www.bwomi.org), said, “We are gathering together the African Church to pray for this nation because more than ever America desperately depends on the prayers of the church.”

Good Morning Beloved,

The article above really caught my attention. What blessed me was Billy Wilson’s comment that, “For hundreds of years, America has been sending missionaries to Africa. Passionate men and women gave their lives to reach souls thousands of miles away and continue to bring the gospel to millions in that heartland. But now, America’s light grows dim and it is Africa’s time to reach out and pray for America.” We are a nation in crisis. Sadly, many within the household of faith don’t realize just how much, and those who do, feel powerless to do anything about it. Sometimes it is hard to see the forest for the trees. In other words, many of us are under so much personal pressure and drama, looking outward is difficult. Thank God He is raising up prayer warriors from the nations to stand in the gap. Prayer is the most powerful weapons in our arsenal. Communication with the God of our salvation. Not just for our needs, wants and desires, but for the needs, wants and desires of others. The greatest being salvation. When we, “lift up our eyes to the hills”.. the source of “our help”, we will see a whole world, crying out for help. We should already know how much God loves us. We should know that nothing is impossible for Him. We should already know that, “greater is He that is within us, then he that is in the world”. We should already know that God is our defense, our strong tower, our exceeding great reward, our Lord, our Savior, our Master, our friend that sticks closer than a brother, our father, our brother, our true soul mate. We know who He is and now, it is our assignment to use what He has placed within us to share that blessing with somebody else. We are Children of the King. A great responsibility, but what a great priviledge!

I heard something yesterday that caught my attention. A news reporter gave safety tips for driving in the snow. One of the tips was to look where you want to go. If you don’t want to go into the tree, keep your eyes off of the tree. His premise was that you will go where your eyes are looking. That stuck with me and this morning I thought, “ummph… that’ll preach”. Where our eyes go, our bodies will follow. Whatever we dwell on will eventually take on life become a reality. If our mind is on McDonald’s fries, it won’t be long before our legs carry us to McDonald’s. No one has ever “accidently” had an affair just coming out of the 7 eleven with a Slurpee. It started off as a thought, some sort of plan… a break-down somewhere. If we can keep our train of thought from getting ‘derailed’, we can keep ourselves out of a whole lot of trouble. It is the holiday season and many people are traveling all over to spend some time with family and friends. Not everyone has as wonderful a relationship with their family as I do. I know that I am extremely blessed with a great bunch of folks. Everybody doesn’t have that testimony. Some are dreading the time they are about to spend with their people. For them, one day is way too long… two days is misery… three days torture! Wonder what would happen if they changed their prospective on the situation. Instead of looking at it as a chore and a duty, why not look at it as a way to start over. To enjoy them in all of their oddities and idiosyncrasies. Time is flying and all we have is right now. Family members are at war over stuff that happened back in the 80′s. If the thing can be changed … change it, if not let it go. Life is too short. Forgiveness is another powerful weapon in our holy arsenal. If Jesus could forgive those who nailed Him to the cross, surely you can forgive your sister for stealing your boyfriend back in high school… I’m just sayin’. Just think of all of the recent deaths, young and old. People who had gone Christmas shopping, gifts from them to their loved ones lying under the tree. Folks with presents under the Christmas tree who will not be here to open them. The verse tells us in essence to walk straight, so that others who are weak can walk straight. Somebody is looking to us to see how to put legs to this Christian walk. They need to see a real live sure ’nuff honest to goodness flesh-n-blood person love their spouse and honor their marriage vows. They need to see someone with a well-adjusted state of mind, a good work ethic, a kind and generous spirit that reflects the love of Christ who walks in honesty and integrity. That may seem to be a tall order… well … it is, but God’s Word assures us that, “we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us”.

Good Morning Beloved,

A few years ago, I went with a friend to home depot. On my way out, the alarm sounded. I looked at the security guard… he looked at me. It was summer time and I had on a tee shirt, stretch pants and sandals (hey we were at the home depot ;0). I went through several times before someone suggested I look at my feet. Sure enough a sensor was stuck to my shoe. The guard told me that he had wondered what was going on … I didn’t even so much as have a purse. That little bitty piece of plastic told on me. As small as it was, it created a sound that could be heard not only all over the store, but the parking lot as well. I had ‘breached security’. We have a similar mechanism in us. The Holy Spirit. The greatest Power in the universe… the power that created everything in eternity, adapted Himself to fit into our tiny frames! Remarkable… mind-blowing. Even more astounding, He has the power to turn us into a grain of salt if He wanted to, yet He respects our free-will so much that He will allow us to do what we want… even to our detriment sometimes. His gentle voice warns us when we’re about to say or do something we shouldn’t. He will minister to our heart and mind when we’re about to cross the line. Reminding us in a split second of the fact that there are consequences for each and every action… good and bad. There are those who ask why God can’t stop war, famine, disease… well, He can. I always want to ask that person, why didn’t God stop you from cheating on your spouse, cursing out the people on the highway, lying on your taxes, and stealing that grape from the produce department. Seems like certain folks like to pull out that old argument, but when they open that box a whole lot more falls out than they anticipated. They have one finger pointed at God, but the other four are pointed back at them. They would say, “yeah, but those are little things, they don’t mean much” . We judge situations on that scale… God’s scale is different… stealing is stealing. That grape may not mean much to you, but it is worth something to the store. What if everyone who entered the store that day took one grape… how many would be left at the end of the day? It is a heart issue… no matter the size of the infraction. The blessed part is that through it all… bottom line… God still has His Hand on the control… humanity would have completely annihilated itself by now otherwise.

Remember ~

There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but GOD is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.

[1Corinthians 10:13]

Good Afternoon Beloved,

Recently I’ve been an outside observer of “Christians Behaving Badly”. Now, granted, not everyone who sits in a pew is a Christian, but there are some bonified-blood bought believers who have issues. Some are as mean as a rattle-snake, others are as slick and slippery as an eel. Some are as stubborn as a mule, while others are as flighty as a bird. Everyone has ‘issues’, but the problem with these folks, is that they have made their issues, everybody elses’. Going through tough situations does not give one a free pass to run rough-shod over everybody. It is a terrible thing to be lost in the household of faith. To be in church where the Word is proclaimed, and to leave in the same state of anger and confusion. It is possible to be in a back-slidden state and attend church every Sunday. The Bible tells of those who have a “form of Godliness but deny the power thereof” (2 Timothy 3:5). Another beautiful part of God’s Character, is that He made a way of escape from that state of mind too. God said that He is “married to the backslider” (Jeremiah 3:14). When God says that He is married, it is not like some of the folks in pop culture today. It is not ’til death do us part’, because in Him there is no death. Just a passing from one life to another life. Through Jesus’ sacrifice we are eternally connected to God. If we choose to walk away from Him, He allows us that choice… but who in their right mind would want to? People all over the world are trusting in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Millions are coming into the family of God. It is up to us to keep our hand in the God’s hand so that they can come into a loving and safe atmosphere to be taught God’s Word. A place where they can learn to love God and find out how much God loves them. A place where someone who has lost their way, can find their way back to God. The blessing is that even though God is never still, He never moved and to those who seek Him, He promises to be found by them.

Good Afternoon Beloved,

I hope your weekend was a blessed as mine was. My family and friends really made my birthday special. I love the story of David. He was an interesting person. I’ve talked about him before, but today I thought about another relatively unknown character… Mephibosheth. He was the only son of David’s best friend Jonathan. Remember, they were like brothers. Jonathan had not only spoke over David’s life and told him that God had given the kingdom to him, but he had also saved David’s life. He even commented that he would serve with David when David took over the throne. Sadly, Jonathan died in battle alongside his father Saul and two of his brothers. After David was firmly situated as king, he asked if there was any of Saul’s people left that he could bless. That was a strange request seeing that any of Saul’s descendants could have fought for control over the throne. They could have killed David and his followers. David was told about Jonathan’s son. Mephibosheth was basically living in poverty and fear. His grandfather Saul had commanded that 85 priests and their families be killed when he was searching for David. Their crime? Not telling Saul which way David went. Only one of priests’ son escaped, and David promised to take care of him for the rest of his life… which he did. God caused a famine to come upon the land because of it. David approached the Gibeonites and asked them what he could do to make it right with them. They decided they wanted the death of seven of Saul’s sons (thank God for our new covenant of grace and mercy) and David complied (1 Samuel 22:16-19) … but he saved Jonathan’s son. Now, it doesn’t appear that Mephibosheth knew any of this. Can you imagine the fear he lived in when his grand-daddy’s kids were killed? He must have thought that his days were numbered… that David was coming to get him too. Can you imagine how he felt the day that he was summoned into David’s presence? Probably unimaginable terror. He couldn’t run … he was lame on both of his feet. He had no power chair to get around. Life had to have been very difficult for him. This is where the story gets interesting… instead of killing him, David tells him that because of his friendship with his daddy, that he was going to take care of him. WOW! Grace in action. Not only that, but he restored to Mephibosheth all of the property that belonged to Saul’s family, and charged Saul’s servant Ziba and his family to take care of it for Mephibosheth. I love this story because it gives such a powerful example of God’s love working through a real live flesh and blood person. Everyday we are challenged with all sorts of decisions. People that have talked about us, double-crossed us you name it. The test of the child of God is what we do when we have an opportunity to really ‘get them’. David could have exacted revenge on Saul’s whole lineage for all the years that Saul tormented him. They were a part of his kingdom now, and he could have really made them suffer, but he chose to honor his commitment to Jonathan and bless his son. Mephibosheth did absolutely nothing to deserve the enormous favor that was poured out on him… it was all because of his father… hmmm… that sounds familiar… everything we receive is because of our Father…. isn’t that something?

Testimony is powerful. In a court of law it could mean the difference between someones freedom and their imprisonment. The same is true in life in general. Someone else could be in a prison which we’ve already been freed from. We have the key and we need to share it with them. If we’ve been delivered from anything, God can use that very thing to bring deliverance to other people.

Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. [1 Corinthians 6:9-11 NLT]

Testimony can also be used to give somebody hope. To let them know that no matter the difficulty and struggle, God is still able. A single mom needs to know that these days of diapers, missed buses, financial problems, doctors’ appointments, report cards, phone calls, meetings with teachers, sickness, penny pinching, chauffeuring, tears, strong willed little darlins’, and yelling will be over all too soon. They need to see that on the other side, they will actually miss some of the darnedest things. Telling someone our testimony has another side benefit. As we tell others what God has done in our life in the past, it actually strengthens our faith that if He brought me through that ( … pause… praise break… HALLELUJAH!!!)

Good Morning Beloved,

Romans 3:23 has been the source of many a serious debate. Some feel that it gives people license to sin (as if they really needed one). I believe that the closer we become to Jesus… the more space He takes up in our heart, the more like Him we will become. Have you ever noticed when people hang with each other a lot, after a while they start looking and sounding alike; sometimes finishing each others sentences. That is what happens with us. It is a unique paradigm, God treasures our individuality and our differences, but our heart is changing to look like Jesus. Our faith and trust in God, our love and concern for others, our integrity, our boldness are all traits found in Jesus, that God is cultivating in us. It is a lifelong project that we are privileged to share with our Heavenly Father. I heard someone say, “but God is a God a wrath too”. Yes, He is. No doubt about that, just take a little stroll through the pages of scripture, and you will see that God can get very angry. Thank God for Jesus. Mediator between God and humanity. I like the picture of God as Judge and Jesus as the defense attorney. When the accuser of the brethren lodges his case against us (some of which is true by the way), if we confess our sins and throw ourselves on the mercy of the court, the defense attorney rolls up His sleeves and shows the court the nail scars…case dismissed…the debt was paid in full!

… and that my Royal Sibling is Good News!

He was the chief tax collector in the region, and he had become very rich. He tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way. When Jesus came by, He looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” He said. “Quick, come down! Good Morning Beloved,

The foundation of the Gospel. Jesus came to seek and save that which was lost. I love this story. This man was very rich….. most likely by ill gotten means. The tax collectors of that day were notorious in their crooked dealings with the children of Israel. The people had no recourse and were basically at their mercy. Tax collectors were hated by the people, so when this new “Rabbi”.. Jesus… announced that He was going to this man’s house, it must have sent shock waves through the crowd. A Holy Man in a sinners house! People are people, and not much has changed in the way of entertaining guests.. especially those who we hold in great esteem. If we knew that the mayor of our city were coming to dinner, can you imagine the preparation that would go into that meal. The house would be spotless, we’d break out the ‘good’ china, and everybody would have on their best manners, as well as clothes. There would probably be cameras, and we would not want to be embarrassed. We would also feel honored that they chose to come to our house. Jesus was the ‘in’ person. Multitudes followed Him to see what He would do next. Any one of them would have gladly hosted Him in their houses for bragging rights. This thieving tax collector’s heart was touched and Jesus knew it. He knew that this man was ready for a change. The man climbed a tree to see Jesus. Think of a man in a suit that cost thousands, expensive shoes, exclusive one of kind jewelry, Cartier watch, the best fragrance designed especially for him…. quality from head to toe… climbing a tree, just to get a better look at Jesus. What will we do to see Jesus?….. The beauty of this story is the picture I see of Jesus looking up at this little man whose clothes were probably torn and disheveled, smiling and inviting Himself in to this man home. We have the same smile from Jesus, and the same invitation from Him to come into our ‘home’…..
