“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.

Good Afternoon Beloved,

This has got to be one of the most quoted scriptures in the whole bible. I’ve heard people who admit to never even reading the bible, quote this verse. They heard it somewhere! Most of the time it is taken out of context. Many of the “don’t judge me” statements come when someone is doing something they KNOW is wrong, but they don’t want to stop, and they don’t want anyone to tell them that it is wrong. If a person is doing something the bible clearly calls “sin”, then they have been judged already… by the Word. It is the Word that is going to be our ultimate Judge on that Day. Our Heavenly does not want anyone to perish, so He has made a way of escape out of every situation. God set the standard for how we are to judge.

You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: you shall not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbour.

[Leviticus 19:15]

Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

[John 7:24]

Our hearts desire is to see a radical depletion in the number of souls headed to hell. Notice what the Word does NOT do .. it doesn’t stop with “judge not”. It gives some instructions. Get the plank out of your eye so that you can see clear enough to help your brother (or sister

). Those who have been sanctified and cleansed by the blood of Jesus have an obligation to share what was done for them. The person who was delivered from a whacked out lifestyle needs to point the person who is still struggling, to the One who delivered them. God is no respecter of persons. What He has done for one, He can do for another. Don’t fall under condemnation. Close family and friends will be the first ones to try and use that argument with you. “How can you judge me, you used to do the same thing” .. exactly… that is exactly how I can tell you.. because I’ve been there. I know first hand where that road leads and I’m trying to spare you. It boils down to the condition of our heart. A renewed mind and a transformed spirit is not trying to embarrass. It is not arrogant or mean. It wants the best for the other person. Our vision has been sharpened better than 20/20. Our insight is steady because we have seen what God has done in our life and we want everyone to experience the same. God has given us sight to see the vision He purposed for us. That joy in the midst of chaos.. Peace in the midst of the storm… Love in the midst of hatred that we experience… well… we want everyone to experience that too! .. and they can.. they just may not be able to see that …. yet

… but by God’s grace many will.

… and that Beloved is Good News!

Mirror… Mirror…

But don’t just listen to GOD’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then GOD will bless you for doing it.

Good Afternoon Beloved,

HAPPY MONDAY! What a beautiful spring-like day DC/Metro.

Today is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! I am privileged to know some of the most wonderful people. Talented, sweet people who are a joy to be around. One of my brother’s-in-Christ, Andrae, has a great sense of humor, and coined a phrase, “do you like what you see?”, to people he deems are staring at him. I thought about that this morning in relation to this verse in James. The Bible is balanced. It admonishes us to “judge not lest we be judged” [Luke 6:37], and then tell us to, “judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. [John 7:24]. Folks love the “judge not” part. We hear that everyday. “Don’t judge me”. I’ve been to funerals of people that everyone knew lived a life of murder, drug-dealing and various criminal activities, and all through the congregation, people show up wearing tee-shirts, posters and buttons that say, “Only God can judge him now”. I don’t think they understand how scary that really is… you really don’t want God to Judge you and find you on the wrong side. Choices for God are made on this side of eternity. The price for waiting too long is way too costly. The human soul was so valuable to God, that the King of all Kings left His throne in Glory, to enter earth’s atmosphere, and shed His own blood to redeem it. The Bible gives us a little glimpse into our future:

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of CHRIST; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he has done, whether it be good or bad. [2 Corinthians 5:10]

Remember that God’s Word said,

”holiness, without no man will see the Lord”.

Simply put… there are things we need to judge… but when we judge them, judge right… according to what the Word says and not our personal preference and taste. If you feel convicted not to wear pants, that’s fine, just don’t make a doctrine out of it. What does the Word of God, (which is the final authority) have to say about the situation. Do you like what you see? That’s a question we all should ask ourselves everyday. Am I looking more like Christ? Am I more loving, more generous, more forgiving than I was yesterday. Am I working harder, and more diligently on my mission and purpose. Am I moving toward God or drifting away from Him? Questions only we know the answer to. The good news is that we have the power and authority to change whatever we see in us that we’re not please with. Not judging ourselves using the yardstick of another fallible human being, but judging ourselves by the Word of God, submitting ourselves to His Lordship, and allowing the Spirit of the Living God to make the changes in us that only He can. Then we will be that “Church without spot or wrinkle of any such thing”… perfect… blameless powerful, good and Holy… the very image of our Daddy

… and that Beloved is Good News!
