  The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me; because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He might be glorified.

Good Morning Beloved,
 
The beauty of Gospel music is that it never grows old!  The message is timeless, therefore the music is timeless.  Styles change.  Fads come and go, but the message will stand.  Truer words were never spoken.  God has a wonderful way of bringing beauty out of ugliness.  As children of God, we have to be so “prayerful”.  Watch and pray the Bible tells us. Think of it this way.  If you were the devil, would you just let these, “sons and daughters of Adam”, live a quiet, peaceful, serene nice little life.  They were created above you.  God loves these little creatures.  He made a plan of redemption for those things after they blatantly sinned against Him.  After they had the nerve to play dumb and point fingers when God questioned them about their transgression.  The plan the devil had to drive a wedge between Adam, Eve and God didn’t quite work out like he thought it would.  He heard God’s promise and foolishly thought he could stop it.  I believe that every male child from Cain and Abel on, made the devil really nervous.  He had bits and pieces to the puzzle, but he had no clue when or where the Son of God would come.  Jesus caught him off guard.  He thought if he could kill Jesus, that would be the end of God’s plan… not the fulfillment of it!  (ummmph… pause… shout… GLORY!).  We find ourselves in the same position.  The enemy thinks he is really doing something.  He tries to kill our praise, our dreams, our faith, our trust, our love, our hope, and ultimately our very lives.  Sometimes.. it actually works.  Folks just give up and turn away from God.  They give up on people and become cynical, critical, bitter and unpleasant.  The good news is that God can soothe the cynic, curtail the critic, sweeten the bitter, and tickle the unpleasant causing them to become “pleasant”.  I had a goofy moment this morning.  A tune from “The Wiz” popped in my head, with different words.  Remember “The Scarecrow” lamenting “You Can’t Win”.. well this is what I wrote~
You can’t win, you can’t break in me, my Jesus got me stop playing these games
 
I hear what you sayin, but it really don’t matter I have faith in Jesus and He called me by name
 
You sit back, and you cause chaos, if I let ‘ya win, I’ve only myself to blame
 
You can’t win now, you can’t break in me cuz I refuse to play your little game.
  
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below 
Praise Him above ye Heavenly Hosts
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost
….. AMEN!

Grateful for Freedom!

Good Morning Beloved,

Tomorrow we celebrate Independence Day …America’s “Birthday”.  It started me thinking of freedom and liberation.  Freedom of a nation…. freedom of a people…. freedom of an individual.  Even in 2008, freedom is a foreign concept to many.  They have no idea what it is like to speak out against injustice, and not be beaten, arrested, tortured or killed.  In 2008 there are people being bought and sold into slavery.  Children sold, maimed and killed.  We are blessed.  Freedom.  Freedom has a cost, and comes with great responsibility, but it is our most valuable treasure. Our responsibility at the very least should be…. appreciation.  Many of our children cannot truly appreciate our freedom, because they do not personally know of anything different.  When I was in school, we were inundated with books, and films that taught of our history.  We learned that we live in a free society, that it was not always the way that it is now, and that while not perfect, our nation has come a long way.  Even in this age of mass media.  People are detached … as though, while they see what is happening in other places, it does not affect them or their lifestyle.  The images shown are like watching another reality television show.  I really appreciate being free today.  I appreciate all those who gave up their freedom, and even their very lives, so that I could live and be free.  Remember this…

I appreciate the ability to fuss about the high cost of fuel without someone kicking in my door.  Besides, if I did not own a car and a house, if I did not shop for food and groceries, I would not have any reason to complain about oil prices.  I appreciate my freedom to live, work, drive, eat, travel, be educated, anywhere I desire.  Most importantly, I am grateful for my greatest liberty…. a free spirit reconnected to God. “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed“. (John 8:36).  All other freedoms we enjoy, can be traced back to this one single act in human history.  Our foundation as a nation is intrinsically connected with the God of the bible, His laws… His statutes… His compassion… His grace… His favor… His love.

I don’t know if anyone ever really escaped from a prison by smuggling in a file hidden inside a cake. But it makes a good illustration of how when we share the Gospel with people, we are giving them the means to their own escape from sin and death.
