 A Brand New Day

Good Morning Beloved,

I hope you’re having a good morning.  The last couple of days have gone by so fast.  I say it all the time, but time is FLYING!  I was telling my daughter, that it only seemed like yesterday I was flipping channels, and ran across Oprah talking to a young Ilinois Senator I had never heard of.  He was talking about his plans to run for President.  I remember thinking, ‘hmmm… that’s interesting, well he doesn’t seem like a bad choice.  He was obviously intelligent, educated, articulate and seemed like a pretty decent person.‘  Yesterday he became the 44th President of the United States…. I saw many beautiful images throughout the day.  My family watched inaugaration events from early yesterday morning, until 10:00pm last night.  What touched me was the dignity and respect President Obama and First Lady Michelle showed to Mr. and Mrs. Bush.  I thought to myself, what a gentleman… what a lady.  I have heard the most vile and ugly comments, jokes, and cartoons about the former President… even from those who name the name of Christ.  President Obama, demonstrated the love of Christ in a way that we all should take note.  Whether or not you agree or disagree with a person, whether of not you like them or not, there is a way to disagree respectfully.  I noticed that he ran his campaign that way as well.  I’m often reminded of the story of Saul and David.  Saul was a king (that never even wanted to be king in the first place), who put the voices of the people, above the voice of God.  Towards the end of his life he was a paranoid, miserable wreck.  The Spirit of God had departed from him, and he was tormented by an evil spirit.  His one mission in life was to kill David.  God was with David and Saul knew it.  David went on the run from Saul.  He had many opportunities to kill Saul.  His men told him that he would not have to do it… they would kill Saul for him.  David steadfastly refused.  He said that he would not be the one to kill ”the Lord’s anointed”. David, respected the mere fact that Saul had been anointed by God as king… he respected the office.  He told them that God would deal with Saul, he would not.  At no time do you read of David even so much as speaking an unkind word to or about Saul.  As a matter of fact, one of the most beautiful songs he wrote was about the death of Saul and his son Jonathan.  You may ask, “does that mean I can’t have an opinion, or be angry about a situation?”.  Absolutely not.  There is nothing wrong with having an opinion, they are like belly buttons … everybody has one.  We should get angry over injustice, but the bible says to “sin not”.  As an individual and as a nation we have much work to do.  Jesus told us to ‘occupy’ (do business – live) until He comes.  God has called us to be good stewards of the life he has given us and to do our part.  For me that is a sobering thought.  There  is coming a “reckening” day -my Grandma used to call it (sooner than we think), when each of us will be called by God, to give an account of what we did with our time here.  On that day, it won’t matter who did what to whom, who liked us or didn’t like us, what was fair and what wasn’t, or any of the multitudes of ways in which we divide ourselves.  The scales will be tipped in the favor of those who trusted their lives to Jesus, and the only words that will matter will be, “well done, good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over a few things, now I will make you ruler of many…enter into the joy of the Lord”.

….and that favored child of God is Good News!

ASK-SEEK-KNOCK……. OPENED.

Written by FAVORED1 on July 21, 2008 – 11:37 am -

Good Morning Beloved,

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:…” [Matthew 7:7]

And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.  [Luke 11:9]

“This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established”. [2 Corinthians 13:1]

That’s a great Word isn’t it?  2 different Apostles… same Word.  Is there something we need to ask for?  Why haven’t we?  Sometimes we feel, that what we need is not important enough to warrant God’s attention.  In His Word, we find that His desire is fellowship with us.  He doesn’t want our only communication with Him to be “gimme, gimme, gimme”… but, He doesn’t want a wrong perception of Him to hinder us from communing with Him and asking Him for what we need or desire.  I have heard people say that you’re only supposed to go to God on important matters, world peace, famine, pestilence, death and disease, you know…. the “biggies”.  These same people believe that it is selfish to pray about ”petty” matters like who to marry, where to live, what type of job have, what kind of transportation etc.  The bible makes it clear that God is interested in every thing that concerns us as an individual, as well as the collective body of Christ.  Sometimes what stops us from asking for a thing is a little pride.  It takes humility to ask someone for something.  A lack of trust in God could be another reason.  The bible says that,

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him”. [Hebrews 11:6]

Now, let me throw this out….. God is not Santa Clause.  He does say no.  That is not a bad thing.  There have been many situations, where I thought I really, really wanted something, and now years later, I praise God He didn’t give it to me!  Also, there have been situations I have found myself in, that I would not have particularly chosen, and it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.  I am learning more each day to lean and trust on Jesus.  He knows what is best for me, and He knows how to get the best out of me, to bring Him glory….. the same holds true for you too!  When I moved to DC, I was going into the 11th grade.  I wanted to go to Duke Ellington and study dance…. (I really thought I could dance back then).  I prayed for it.  When I got there and saw the other dancers rehearsing, I totally freaked out and lost my nerve.  I met a young lady who was trying out for the drama department, and I decided to hang with her.  She neglected to tell me that you had to have an audition piece.  I wanted to run… but decided to stay.  Everyone was so good.  I re-enacted a scene in a book I was reading at the time.  IT WAS AWFUL!… needless to say…. I didn’t get in.  I ended up at Cardozo, where I met my life-long buddy Tina…. now my daughter’s Godmother.  She kept me out of A LOT of trouble.  I think that episode at Duke stuck with me… I never liked failing, so after school… at the urging of an older family friend… ok, “Woogie” wouldn’t take no for an answer!…. I registered in the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts and studied theater.  It was a love I didn’t realize I had, but it probably would not have happened at all if I had not totally blown the audition at Duke and embarrassed myself!

Have A Fabulous Day

Have You Asked???

Good Morning Beloved,

… such a pretty morning it is too!  Today, I was pondering on Jesus’ Words:

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. ”Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.  (Matthew 7:12)

This scripture made me think, of how many times I find myself in a situation… and never ‘ask’ God for the solution.  I’ll ask friends, family members, co-workers, … people in line at the McDonald’s…. but not God.  I wondered why, with my saved-sanctified-Holy Ghost filled self… that I have had a tendency to “forget” to just ask God.  I try to rationalize it by saying that “God already knows the situation…. better than I do… so I don’t need to tell Him”.  While this statement is true… it is a cop-out.  I’m talking about me now.  Remember, God desires fellowship with us.  He is that “friend that sticks closer than a brother”.  He wants me to reverence Him yes, but also to trust Him with everything.  Trust Him with the smallest inconvenience, or the toughest struggle.  The greatest joy or the greatest pain… He wants us to share with Him.  He is the real source of all joy, and the comforter and healer of all pain.

God I thank You.  You are great.  You are the ruler over everything.  Your power is matchless.  Your arms not too short to save.  You are Wisdom personified.  True Love You are.  I thank You for the eyes that read this message.  I pray that You bless their soul, strengthen the weak, empower the powerless, meet every need, heal every body, soothe every fevered mind.  You said that You would keep them in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You.  Help us to realign our focus.  We set ourselves in agreement with You today.  This is the day that You have made and we shall rejoice and be glad in it.  Thank You for our family, friends, co-workers and everyone who we come in contact with today.  Use us as Your vessel to pour out, what You have poured in to us this day.  Return the oil to the whole body.  Remember Your church.  Hear our prayers as we turn our faces toward You…. In Jesus Name…. Thank you Father…. Bless Your Holy Name…. Love You….Amen.
