“IN THE MIDDLE OF IT”

This has been an exciting .. albeit trying week. My sister-in-”love” was the recipient of one of the most unselfish gifts one human being can ever give to another… a heart.  Our prayers, love and gratitude go out to the donor and their family.  Although gone from us, a piece of that person will continue to live on here and bless countless others through the lives that Michelle touches on a daily basis.  Michelle has been living in her condition for a long time. During that time, I’ve been able to observe her, and I noticed something… I’ve never heard her complain.  I’m not saying she hasn’t, I’ve never heard it.  She has been the most positive, upbeat, person I know.  She is a worshipper, and in the middle of her pain, and shortness or breath she continued to praise God.  In the middle of her situation, she would never hesitate to help someone else in theirs.  She is always ready with a listening ear, a smile and words of wisdom and comfort.  I can’t wait to see what this new chapter of her life will hold.  My continual prayer is “Lord, make her body as strong as her spirit, mind, will.”  She is one “tough cookie”.  Her life is a testimony.  Life happens.  It is not always sunshine and summer vacation.  Bad things happen to amazing people.  We don’t understand it, but it’s true.  It is easy to praise God when favor is manifesting all around us, but what about when the world seem to be caving in around us.  Is He still God in our lives?  He will be God whether people acknowledge His existence and Sovereignty or not, but where is He in our heart during painful times?  Some deny the faith out of their disappointment and anger.  God does not deny that we will have times of questioning, doubt, anger, resentment. He tells us to come to Him, communicate with Him.  He already knows our every thought.. sees our every movement.  He is completely “shock-proof”.  He KNOWS us.. intimately.  Talking to Him builds our confidence, and strengthens our relationship with Him.  We begin to recognize His Voice.  When my mom or my daughter call me on the telephone, I never have to ask “who is this?”.  I’ve talked to them enough over the years to know their voice.  I remember going to my mother’s job many years ago.  She worked in a secure government building.  I stopped at the guard’s desk to gain access to her office, and I heard her laugh.  Her division was having a party in the room next to the Guard’s station.  I told the guard, “never mind.. I hear my mother in there“.  They went in and let her know I was waiting for her.  In a crowded room, I still heard and recognized my mother.  That is the way God wants us to be with Him.  In a crowded room of all kinds of voices, agendas, opinions, all screaming for attention, He wants us to be able to distinguish His voice from the rest… in the middle of extreme turmoil or fabulous success, he wants us to know He has been with us since our beginning .. and, as Israel Houghton so eloquently said.. “He stands at the end“.  Hold on Love… the middle may seem to be going on a long time, but there is a purpose for it that you may not be able to see right now.  I promise you, God has a plan for your life and where you are RIGHT NOW is a crucial part of it… selah!

   I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.  No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the Heavenly Prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

“Push Thru It…”

Good Morning Beloved,

Press.. persevere… push…  Life is full of twists and turns. We never know what is around the next corner.  Blessings or hardship either way, most of us find ourselves unprepared for what lies ahead.  That is why we are encouraged to fix our eyes towards the hills from where our help comes from, guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus, and hide the Word of God in our hearts.  We are never “prepared” for the death of a loved one, or loss of any kind.  On the flip side, we will always be awed by the great blessings of God, no matter how long we have waited and prepared for it.  We go to school, practice, work and study, but when God elevates us ..well.. maybe not you, but speaking for myself, I am still overwhelmed.  God’s gives us the vision, and He will provide the “provision”.  He will show us the end of the thing, but never the “middle”. Remember when Jesus told the disciples that they were going to the “other side“.  What He did not tell them (and I’m sure He knew), was that a great storm was going to arise.  Some of them were fisherman.  Tough, strong men who were used to all of the conditions of the seas.  I’m pretty sure they didn’t scare easily, so this must have been one heck of a storm.  Jesus, didn’t tell them.  He wanted them to trust the Word that He had spoken to them.  His last Word to them was that they were “going to the other side”.  What is the last Word God gave you? .. What is the last assignment He gave to you?  Opposition will come.  The enemy will try to confuse, mislead and discourage you all along the way.  Our vision may get a  little cloudy from time to time… glasses a little foggy.  Clean them with the Living Water of God’s Word.  Remember that the enemy of our soul is a liar and he’s headed to the fire.  He wants to take as many with him as he can.  Our purpose is to allow God to work through us, and snatch them from his grip.  This is why we have no time for petty jealousies, junk and mess “isms and skisms” in the body.  There are too many people perishing, while folks are jocking for position, tripping off of whether women should preach, and whether they should wear make-up and pants, or whether or not Kirk Franklin is anointed by God to do what he does.  Our God-given assignment is to point them to the saving mercies of the cross.  To preach the Good News .. the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.  To tell the perishing that God is Alive, and He loves them, by using whatever gift, talent or skill set God has blessed us with.  Sometimes we have to push past some things.  Push past the “naysayers”, push past the negativity, push past the hurt of our past, push past our current financial state, push past our feelings, push past what people will think .. and just do it.

“…and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

 May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.  All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Jesus Christ. This is what He wanted to do, and it gave Him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace He has poured out on us who belong to His dear Son.  He is so rich in kindness and grace that He purchased our freedom with the blood of His Son and forgave our sins. He has showered His kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. God has now revealed to us His mysterious plan regarding Christ, a plan to fulfill His own good pleasure. And this is the plan: At the right time He will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for He chose us in advance, and He makes everything work out according to His plan. God’s purpose was that we Jews who were the first to trust in Christ would bring praise and glory to God.  And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, He identified you as His own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom He promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that He will give us the inheritance He promised and that He has purchased us to be His own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify Him. Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God’s people everywhere, I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.  I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope He has given to those He called—His holy people who are His rich and glorious inheritance.  I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe Him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Now He is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come.  God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made Him head over all things for the benefit of the church.  And the church is His body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with Himself.

TAKE ANOTHER LOOK pt. 3 

NEWSFLASH… God is RICH!  I know, what a revelation right?  “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof”.  He is rich all the way around.  In addition to the “cattle on a thousand hills” (Psalm 50:10) , He is also rich in mercy, rich in goodness, rich in patience.  Rich.  He lacks nothing. Not only is He rich, but He is generous.  It is His good pleasure to give to His children.  The thing is, He is a good parent.  He knows that ’blessings’ out of season can actually become a curse to our life.  There are some affluent parents who give their children so much that it actually cripples them.  Those children become spoiled, self-centered, lazy and arrogant.  They develop a sense of entitlement that causes them to have warped sense of reality and lack compassion.  They become destructive to themselves and others.  Remember the old saying, “idle hands are the devils workshop”… we see that played out over and over in today’s media.  There are good parents though, who give their children more than just material things (though they give them stuff as well).  They give them.. themselves.  Love, time, care, attention, nurturing.  They impart wisdom to them and a sense of responsibility and respect.  These children generally grow up to be amazing people with a desire to give back.  That is the way our Heavenly Father operates.  He could make us all multi-millionaires tomorrow, but He knows chaos would ensue! Think about that.  If God gave us everything we wanted, exactly when we wanted, what would we do?  Would we continue to seek His face or would we be blinded and distracted by the stuff.  Truthfully, there are some things I’m glad God did not give me when I asked for them… it would not have worked out for my good.  God has used wisdom and experience to teach me that.  In Him is all that we need.  I was listening to Antwaun Stanley’s first project this morning and I fell in love with it all over again. The songs were honest and sweet.  They spoke to having a real relationship with God.  They came from a place of humility, surrender, curiosity, admiration and love.  That is the relationship God wants with us.  One that is not burdened down with fear, worry, sin and regret.  He told us to come to Him and “reason” with Him.  He is the answer to our “issues”, and He told us to cast our “care” on Him… Why?  Because He cares for us.  I received this repost from my sister-in-love” Michelle.  It read:

This week’s topic: Faith In God One of my favorite Southern Baptist preachers, Johnny Hunt, once said that the only time he ever gets headaches is when he finds himself trying to fight today’s battles with tomorrow’s strength. I think Pastor Johnny was quoting another pastor when he said it. Come to think of it, the idea originated with Jesus:

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” -Matthew 6:34

God supplies all the strength we need to do all that He’s called us to do. But He rations this strength much in the same way He rationed manna to the children of Israel. He provides sufficient strength each day for the challenges of that day…and that day only. This strength doesn’t carry over from one day to the next. You either use it, or lose it. And He will not give you enough strength today for the confrontations, obligations, and challenges of next week, next month, or next year. That strength will be deposited in your account precisely when you need it, and not a moment before. If you’re stressed and overwhelmed today, check your strength supply. I’ll bet you have enough to get you through this day. And that’s all you need for now.

Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as My Father has sent Me, even so send I you.  And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, Receive you the Holy Ghost…

(John 20:21-22)

Piece of God = Peace with God

God is so good.  Picture it… Jesus had just been crucified.  The disciples saw Him die (from a distance).  They were hiding in fear that they would be next to suffer the same fate as their Lord.  Suddenly, Jesus appears in the room.  The first thing He says to them is, “Peace, be still” .  Remember how frightened they were when He walked on water through the storm.  They thought He was a ghost then, and as far as they knew He was still alive, so you can imagine how they felt after watching Him die and now… here He is.  They realized after talking with Him that, first of all it was Him… He showed them the nail prints.  Then He gave them clear instructions on what they were supposed to do (basically get out of that room and get to work ), as well as the power to do it.  It is interesting to me that the first words out of the mouth of the Lord was “Peace” and that His first action was to breath on them.  He gave them the Holy Spirit… a piece of Himself.  The onus was on them to receive what He gave them.  Only by the power of the Holy Spirit could they have been enabled to go through what they went through.  They were beaten, tortured, maligned, banished, imprisoned and killed for the name of Jesus… and they felt honored to do so.  They knew the Truth, and the Truth had set them free from what men could do to them.  They went from fearful to faithful.  Their strength was increased.  May God help us to have that same tenacity in times of trouble.  To hold fast to our confession, and trust in the Lord no matter what is happening around us.  This weekend I had what I like to call a teachable moment from on high.  My daughter and I were coming home from church and encountered a road block.  There had just been a five car accident, and the police diverted all traffic on that side.  I am extremely unfamiliar with this particular area.  Add that I was tired, it was late, dark and the roads were icy and you have a recipe for potential disaster.  The GPS was inadvertently left home and no one I called could help me.  I was completely lost.  I could feel fear starting to rise in my heart, and knew that if I ‘lost it’ it would only make a bad situation worse… so I kept on driving…. I started out in Upper Marlboro Maryland and ended up 5 miles from Waldorf in my attempt to reach my destination… Southeast DC!  I was going in the complete opposite direction!  I turned around praying for the little green sign that would say “Washington“.  I saw one… and then nothing but long dark lonely highway after that.  I held on to the last sign I saw and kept straight.  Eventually, I begin to enter into familiar territory and finally we made it home.  A 25 minute trip took 2 hours!  I was so grateful.  The peace of God kept me, because a ‘piece’ of God is in me…

“Testify”

Good Morning Beloved,

The Bible is the living, breathing testimony of an all wise, all knowing, all powerful God.  He looked down throughout the ages and placed snapshots of human history on paper.  One writer in speaking of the acts of Jesus said that: And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.   [John 21:25]

Testimony is powerful.  In a court of law it could mean the difference between someones freedom and their imprisonment.  The same is true in life in general.  Someone else could be in a prison which we’ve already been freed from.  We have the key and we need to share it with them.  If we’ve been delivered from anything, God can use that very thing to bring deliverance to other people. 

Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. Testimony can also be used to give somebody hope.  To let them know that no matter the difficulty and struggle, God is still able.  A single mom needs to know that these days of diapers, missed buses, financial problems, doctors’ appointments, report cards, phone calls, meetings with teachers, sickness, penny pinching, chauffeuring, tears, strong willed little darlins’, and yelling will be over all too soon.  They need to see that on the other side, they will actually miss some of the darnedest things.  Telling someone our testimony has another side benefit.  As we tell others what God has done in our life in the past, it actually strengthens our faith that if He brought me through that ( … pause… praise break… HALLELUJAH!!!)

… He WILL bring us through whatever it is that we are in the midst of now!

…. and THAT Beloved is Good News!

Good Morning Beloved!

Happy Monday!

Talk about something that goes against everything ‘natural’ within us.  There are exceptions of course, but for most of us, when we’re mistreated our first inclination is NOT to bless them real good.  ‘Bless them out’ maybe, but when somes really hurts us, I mean really hurts us we want revenge or at least justice.  I remember when Tyler Perry’s ‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman’ came out, there was a lot of debate.  People were stuck on the “Mad Black Woman” part.  They could’nt understand why she was mad. Unfortunately this story could have portrayed a woman of any ethnicity.  You marry a man of very little means and stick by his side during extremely lean times.  You work to put him through college and law school, and after he becomes successful and wealthy, he, his mistress and their kids callously kick you out of your house after 18 years.  That would make anyone angry.  My grandmother would have called him an ‘old goat’.  I love the picture in the scripture verse.  The sheep showed kindness, and fed the goat even though the goat mistreated him.  God called us to live peaceably with each other.  He called us to love…especially the ‘unlovely’.  He did it and because He did it, He knows that we can do it.  We have an advantage… His Spirit which enables us to do what we can’t in our strength.  We should never be afraid to ask for help from the One from which all blessings flow.  Great is our reward in heaven (and Praise God we get some stuff here too). People will try to take advantage of your kindness, but there is nothing wrong with setting boundaries.  One of the most over-used phrases ever is “I thought they was a Christian”.  It’s amazing how quick people are to throw that one out.  A good reminder — being a Christian does not exempt us from trouble, but we have a hope in the midst of trouble.  A promise and a peace that it will not last forever.  Picture the three Hebrew boys in the fiery furnace … God did not stop the people from throwing them in the fire, but He walked with them in the middle of the fire and when they came out, the smell of smoke was not even on them. Some of us have been through some things that people don’t believe because we don’t carry the ‘smell’ of where we’ve been on us.  Christians get angry and the bible tells us to ‘sin not’, but sometimes we do.  When we miss the mark, we have an advocate with the Father in Christ Jesus and we can ask for and receive forgiveness.  We experience pain, suffering, sickness and loss like everybody else, but we have a God who still heals.  He still mends broken hearts.  He still blesses.  He still makes ways where there seem to be no ways.  So whether we’re dealing with sheep, goats or sheep who act like goats… we need to love ‘em … keep pressing toward the mark, with our eyes on Jesus and live!
