Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.  Psalm 19:14

Good Afternoon Beloved,

Sorry for the lateness of the ‘Soul Food’… I’ve been a little under the weather.  “Pray ye one for another”… that is what is reverberating in my heart today.  Yesterday I received the heartbreaking news of one of our Soul Food sisters who lost a church member to suicide.  Today I read a news report of a man who walked into the Crystal Cathedral (remember the “Hour of Power” television broadcast), handed the usher a note with his drivers license, walked to the foot of the cross at the altar, and shot and killed himself –ironically both incidents happened on Wednesday.  A while back one of my “Faith Spot” online community sisters lost her beloved nephew to suicide.  I remember a line from “Its a Wonderful Life”, where Clarence the angel said something to the effect that, each persons’ life touches so many other people, and when they’re gone they leave a hole.  This is especially true in the family of God.  We have the same Heavenly Daddy, that makes us brother and sisters.  In this age we’re living in, now more than ever, the strong must bear the infirmities of the weak.  We don’t know what will take someone to their breaking point, but we need to be vigilant.  We may not be able to stop every incidence, but we may never know how many tragedies have already be averted because of the watchful, praying spirit of a child of God.  That is the good news.  I know I am here because of a praying mother, grandmother, church mothers, Pastor, friends, church family, co-workers, etc. etc. etc.  The person may never know (it’s nice if they do), but if they don’t.. pray anyway…it is effective.  What if you pray for someone and it still ends badly for them?…. know that you did all you could, and do not allow the adversary to put condemnation on you.  We have all been given the gift of a free will.

Love on somebody this weekend… leave nothing unsaid within your circle of influence, and most of all share with somebody the Gospel …. however you best communicate it.  I am a ‘theater person’.  I use drama to ’show’ the gospel.  As Fred Hammond once stated, “the gospel must be seen”.  I like to write, so here we are, “the morning Soul Food”.  Also, we can share our faith by simply developing relationships with people.  Not, meeting them and clobbering them with God’s precious Word, but actually taking the time to get to know people, and “allowing our light to so shine before humanity that they would see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven”.  People really don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.  I’ve had people ask me how are you so doggone (ok…they didn’t say doggone), happy everyday… I let ‘em know… hey… they asked.  When I lost a job I had a few years ago, I smiled, hugged the ‘terminators’, said my good-byes and rolled out.  People called and emailed to check on me.  I let them know that I was fine and that God had always taken care of me, and He would continue. That was November, 2006, I worked a few very short-term temp jobs until February, 2007.  I joined a new agency they had an assignment that was only to last one month.  I said, “great!”, my friend and sister-in-Christ Arlene had given me a great birthday gift… an all expense paid trip on the ”One Love Gospel Cruise”.   The trip was in March, 2007.  Before I left, for the trip the VP of the office where I was on assignment called me into her office and asked if I would like to come back, after my trip.  I said sure (I’m still there).  They got a temp while I was on vacation… can you believe that… a temp for a temp!  That’s God… He knows what we need for sure!  Prayer works.  I know it has been my extreme honor and privilege to see God at work in the lives of people God has placed in my path.

… and that dearly Beloved is Good News!

U Blessed

Truth vs. Lies
-Proverbs 12:19

Colossians 2:15 tells us that Jesus disarmed the powers and authorities…triumphing over them by the cross. The only weapons Satan has left to him are his lies, but they are no match for the truth of God’s Word.

And seeing the multitudes, He went up into a mountain: and when He was set, His disciples came unto Him: And He opened His mouth, and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.  Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.  Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.  Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.  Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.  Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake.  Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in Heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.  You are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.  You are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 5:1-16

VOICE OF THE MARTYRS ….

Twenty- year-old Sandul Bibi is in prison in Pakistan, charged with violating section 295-B of the Pakistani legal code, the “blasphemy” law. Sandul is falsely accused of ripping pages from the Quran. On Oct. 9, a large crowd of Muslims attacked Christian families at a church, throwing stones and firing guns. They were shouting, “Kill Gulsher and his daughter Sandul.” Sandul and her father, Gulsher Masih, were arrested after a mob from the local mosque surrounded their house. Loudspeakers from different mosques broadcast accusations that Christians had disgraced the Quran, calling Muslims to attack and burn their homes. The angry crowd threw stones at Sandul’s home. Christians believe Sandul and her father were targeted and arrested because they were aggressively winning villagers to Christ. To send a letter of encouragement to Sandul Bibi, click here.

Good Morning Beloved,

Happy Friday!!!   Welcome to the last Friday of 2008!

We are so blessed.  Christmas Day is gone, but “Christ-mas” need not ever end.  Did you realized that God’s people were called “Christians” as a kind of slur.  Unbelievers would sneer and say, “here come those “Christians”, or little Christs”.  They were so named, because they endeavored to do what they saw their Lord do… act the way they saw their Lord act, speak what they heard their Lord say.  I included the above headlines as a gentle reminder for us to pray for our brothers and sisters in hostile territories… at home and abroad.  Pray for their strength, their protection, their provision, their families.  Even if we cannot financially support them at the moment, our prayers are invaluable, and can go places we cannot go.  We are the Body of Christ and every part is significant.  No part is greater than any other part.  I found this to be true last Saturday.  It was the end of the second of three performances.  I had a very quick change and I was running up 2 flights of stairs with boths hands full.  I tripped on the robe I was wearing and banged my toe on the step.    Every part of my body felt and re-acted to the pain in my foot.  I made it through the end of the second show, and limped myself over the the nurse’s station.  Thankfully, it was not broken, but it still hurt.  The pain affected how I drove home (it happened to be the ‘driving foot’), how I walked, the shoes I wore, my mind (…because now I thought about how to avoid any movement that would affect that toe), and even how I knelt to pray.  Almost a week later, and it is still a little sore… but nothing like it was.  Well, the blessing, is that Jesus is our head, He sees all, is concerned about everything, and has the power to heal whatever is going on in His Body.

… and that my friend is Good News!

The Prayers of the Saints…

And when He had taken The Book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the LAMB, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odors, which are the prayers of saints.

Revelation 5:8

And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto Him much incense, that He should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the Throne.
Revelation 8:3

And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before GOD out of the angel’s hand.

Revelation 8:4

Good Morning Beloved,

“The prayers of the Saints”.  The bible tells us that we should always pray and never faint, or give up.  My dear sister in Christ Arlene, sent me a message this morning about Matthew the 24th chapter.  Those verses are as on point as anything could ever be.  It is as if they were ripped straight from the pages of today’s newspaper.  We are seeing what the disciples of Jesus would have found unbelievable.  Sin is heralded as cute, pleasurable, and not that big of a deal; while holiness is becoming dated, restrictive, narrow, harsh, crazy and repugnant to society at large.  Matthew 24 tells us what to expect so we won’t be shocked when we see it come to pass.  However, Revelation (the end of the thing as we know it), tells us that our prayers are so precious, that they are carried straight into the presence of God in Golden Vials.  The 24 elders place them before the throne.  Not one of them is ever lost, misplaced, or discarded.  Perilous times are here, more are coming, but fear not, not only do we have the heart of God, but His Eyes and Ears too…

The Eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry.

Psalm 34:15

ASK-SEEK-KNOCK……. OPENED.

Written by FAVORED1 on July 21, 2008 – 11:37 am -

Good Morning Beloved,

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:…” [Matthew 7:7]

And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.  [Luke 11:9]

“This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established”. [2 Corinthians 13:1]

That’s a great Word isn’t it?  2 different Apostles… same Word.  Is there something we need to ask for?  Why haven’t we?  Sometimes we feel, that what we need is not important enough to warrant God’s attention.  In His Word, we find that His desire is fellowship with us.  He doesn’t want our only communication with Him to be “gimme, gimme, gimme”… but, He doesn’t want a wrong perception of Him to hinder us from communing with Him and asking Him for what we need or desire.  I have heard people say that you’re only supposed to go to God on important matters, world peace, famine, pestilence, death and disease, you know…. the “biggies”.  These same people believe that it is selfish to pray about ”petty” matters like who to marry, where to live, what type of job have, what kind of transportation etc.  The bible makes it clear that God is interested in every thing that concerns us as an individual, as well as the collective body of Christ.  Sometimes what stops us from asking for a thing is a little pride.  It takes humility to ask someone for something.  A lack of trust in God could be another reason.  The bible says that,

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him”. [Hebrews 11:6]

Now, let me throw this out….. God is not Santa Clause.  He does say no.  That is not a bad thing.  There have been many situations, where I thought I really, really wanted something, and now years later, I praise God He didn’t give it to me!  Also, there have been situations I have found myself in, that I would not have particularly chosen, and it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.  I am learning more each day to lean and trust on Jesus.  He knows what is best for me, and He knows how to get the best out of me, to bring Him glory….. the same holds true for you too!  When I moved to DC, I was going into the 11th grade.  I wanted to go to Duke Ellington and study dance…. (I really thought I could dance back then).  I prayed for it.  When I got there and saw the other dancers rehearsing, I totally freaked out and lost my nerve.  I met a young lady who was trying out for the drama department, and I decided to hang with her.  She neglected to tell me that you had to have an audition piece.  I wanted to run… but decided to stay.  Everyone was so good.  I re-enacted a scene in a book I was reading at the time.  IT WAS AWFUL!… needless to say…. I didn’t get in.  I ended up at Cardozo, where I met my life-long buddy Tina…. now my daughter’s Godmother.  She kept me out of A LOT of trouble.  I think that episode at Duke stuck with me… I never liked failing, so after school… at the urging of an older family friend… ok, “Woogie” wouldn’t take no for an answer!…. I registered in the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts and studied theater.  It was a love I didn’t realize I had, but it probably would not have happened at all if I had not totally blown the audition at Duke and embarrassed myself!

U Blessed,

Have A Fabulous Day

Have You Asked???

Written by FAVORED1 on May 21, 2008 – 4:58 am -

Good Morning Beloved,

… such a pretty morning it is too!  Today, I was pondering on Jesus’ Words:

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. ”Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.  (Matthew 7:12)

This scripture made me think, of how many times I find myself in a situation… and never ‘ask’ God for the solution.  I’ll ask friends, family members, co-workers, … people in line at the McDonald’s…. but not God.  I wondered why, with my saved-sanctified-Holy Ghost filled self… that I have had a tendency to “forget” to just ask God.  I try to rationalize it by saying that “God already knows the situation…. better than I do… so I don’t need to tell Him”.  While this statement is true… it is a cop-out.  I’m talking about me now.  Remember, God desires fellowship with us.  He is that “friend that sticks closer than a brother”.  He wants me to reverence Him yes, but also to trust Him with everything.  Trust Him with the smallest inconvenience, or the toughest struggle.  The greatest joy or the greatest pain… He wants us to share with Him.  He is the real source of all joy, and the comforter and healer of all pain.

God I thank You.  You are great.  You are the ruler over everything.  Your power is matchless.  Your arms not too short to save.  You are Wisdom personified.  True Love You are.  I thank You for the eyes that read this message.  I pray that You bless their soul, strengthen the weak, empower the powerless, meet every need, heal every body, soothe every fevered mind.  You said that You would keep them in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You.  Help us to realign our focus.  We set ourselves in agreement with You today.  This is the day that You have made and we shall rejoice and be glad in it.  Thank You for our family, friends, co-workers and everyone who we come in contact with today.  Use us as Your vessel to pour out, what You have poured in to us this day.  Return the oil to the whole body.  Remember Your church.  Hear our prayers as we turn our faces toward You…. In Jesus Name…. Thank you Father…. Bless Your Holy Name…. Love You….Amen.
