Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, That He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
[Ephesians 5:25-27]
“Clean”
Good Afternoon Beloved,
Happy Friday!
I’m not accepting any Friday the 13th craziness. This is the day that the Lord has made, so I’ve decided to follow the Psalmist and rejoice and be glad in it. It’s raining cats, dogs, birds and some more, but I’ve determined not to let a little thing like rain steal my joy… God is too good. Walking through the rain to work today, I started thinking about what God said about cleansing. Now, most people use Ephesians 5 when they are talking about married people. My focus was on Jesus. The first thing that got my attention was that Jesus loves the church. That is the most important part. Everything else rests on that love. His laws, His precepts, His commandments, all stem from His love for us. The other thing that caught my attention, was the verse that talked about what HE would do. Always keep in mind that we are in covenant with God. A covenant is like a contract. Each party agrees to the terms of their individual ‘parts’ of the agreement. In this instance, Jesus takes on the responsibility of purifying us. Preparing us to be presented to Him “spotless”. Whoa! Now that is really something. If you’re like me, you probably don’t think that you’re a ‘bad’ person, however, you know that you are no where near ’spotless’. If we’re honest we know that we have a few spots, wrinkles, tears, holes, scratches, but Jesus promises to work out all of that through His Word. When His Word becomes ‘real’ in us, it will change us.
