Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that promised;)

Tighter Than Ever … ;)

Good Morning Beloved,

Soooo… yesterday was pretty interesting wasn’t it?  One minute, I’m at lunch.. relaxing.. head phones on.. listening to one of my favorite songs, the next minute my chair starts dancing.  There is always construction going on somewhere in our vicinity, so we have grown accustomed to “thumps and shakes”.  The last place where I worked, the trash truck would ‘bump’ the building everyday .. and I could feel it.  Once I found out what it was, I never really gave it another thought.  We just don’t have earthquakes in downtown Washington, DC – until yesterday.  I’ve heard many opinions.  Some saying it was God’s wake-up call for us to “get ourselves together” .. others -even some Christians- poo-pooed that thought altogether.  I sensed a great divide and wondered how people on the same side of the fence, could be polar opposites of each other.  The answer, as I see it, is not an ‘either/or’, but rather ‘both‘.  How you ask?  Well, I listened as some saints berated other saints for saying that God was sending a message.  I heard a man say that a lot of Christians were talking about Jesus’ return ”all of a sudden”.  I wondered where he had been, because all of the ministries I’m affiliated with, have preached that for years.  Matthew 24 is a regular message my Pastor has preached for over 22 years.  No matter what subject she happens to speak on, Matthew 24 will be in there somewhere.  It is the grace of God that He hasn’t wound this thing down long before now.  We who believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of True and Living God, know what He said:

And Jesus answered and said unto them, “Take heed that no man deceive you; for many shall come in My name, saying, `I am Christ,’ and shall deceive many. And you shall hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you be not troubled, for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there shall be famines and pestilences and earthquakes in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted and shall kill you, and you shall be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then shall many lose faith and shall betray one another and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this Gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come.

That being said, knowing and seeing it unfold before your eyes can be two different things.  Most of us, have never experienced an earthquake before, in some areas of the world, they are common.  There was a change yesterday in the hearts and minds of people all over the eastern seaboard.  We now know that we are not immune from an earthquake.  That thought is very disconcerting to people.  Yet over and over in the scriptures, we are admonished to “fear not”.  The Lord is with us.  “Through storm and rain.. sickness and pain”.  Isn’t that what we sing about? .. what we shout over? .. why we dance so vigorously in church Sunday after Sunday?  Yes.. but in the face of imminent danger, our “natural” reaction is fear, shock or both. I truly believed that my family and friends were OK, physically and emotionally, but when I was finally able to hear from them I felt GREAT relief and I was really thankful.  It was a beautiful day and I decided to walk home from work.  It took 2 hours and 45 minutes, but I was happy.  I also rediscovered how much I really love walking! … it was a “3 fer 1″~good for my mind, body and spirit!;) winking  I really believe that yesterday did in fact serve as a ‘wake-up’ call for many, but how ’bout this.. God has sent his greatest wake-up call over 2000 years ago when Jesus came.  Jesus calls us His friends.  A real friend will not leave you clueless.  If they have information that will save you, they won’t hesitate to tell you.  They love you and they want to protect you.  That being said, Jesus told us everything that was going to happen during the “last days”.  The Bible is literally leaping off of the pages… it is the “Living Word” afterall.  The ministers of God, the watchmen and women on the walls have been proclaiming the shortening of the days for centuries… if a lil shakin’ is what it takes to point somebody to the grace and mercy of God… then it is a blessing. Eternity is too long to spend without Jesus.  As for the saints of God, remember that the Lord told us to “occupy” until He comes.  Don’t allow fear to paralyze you, rather use this opportunity to shake off lethargy, anxiety, doubt and whatever else is holding us back from going after what God wants us to do.  Exploits remember.. God wants us to do EXPLOITS.  There is so much in this world to do and to explore.. so many lives that are desiring a change, but don’t know which way to go… so many souls dying everyday, many not knowing the saving grace of Jesus.  We have our work cut out for us, but FEAR NOT.. the work may be great.. but the GREATER ONE lives on the inside of us and in Him there is NOTHING we cannot do! … Selah…

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not (don’t give up).
Galatians 6:9

I will bless the LORD who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me.  I know the LORD is always with me.  I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me.  No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice.  My body rests in safety.  For You will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave.  You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of Your Presence and the pleasures of living with You forever.

[Psalm 16:7-11]

Happy Friday Beloved!

Bless the Lord!!! … This morning as I was listening to Dr. Tony Evans of The Urban Alternative, he used an illustration that captured my attention.  It was that of a person who falls head over heels in love with someone that met on line.  They have never seen the person face to face, sometimes they have never even heard their voice, and yet are willing to come out from the safety of their home or office, and meet these people, because the feel that they “know” them.  Words … I found it especially interesting, because my first thought was the teenager who killed herself over the “break-up” of her on line romance.  It wasn’t a romance at all, in fact, the young “man” she fell for wasn’t even a male.  It was a cruel hoax orchestrated by the mother of a former “friend” of hers, to see if this young lady was talking about her daughter behind her back.  This case made international news because the courts did not know how to proceed in this case.  I don’t know why… but there was a lot of confusion as to how to charge these people.  The other girl’s mother was convicted, but was then acquitted July, 2009 (http://techliberation.com/2009/07/02/lori-drew-acquitted-in-megan-meier-case-what-to-do-about-cyberbullying/).  That was a child.  On the other end of the age spectrum, while channel surfing one evening, I came across a show where a woman was excitedly telling her friends that she was finally going to meet a man with whom she had shared a very ’intimate phone relationship’ for three years.  They had exchanged pictures, but she had never seen him face to face.  When she met him, she was happy with what she saw, but when her physical advances towards him were refused she was crushed.  He left her in her apartment, in her underwear.  My point?  In both of these instances, these ladies put their very lives on the line for someone they only thought they knew.  What fascinates me is that there are those who can’t understand how we as children of God can believe in a God we can’t see, can’t touch and haven’t heard audibly.  What attracts not only these ladies, but many other men and women? “Words”.  Words are powerful.  They can be extremely intimate and can touch places deep in our soul.   The word “word” is mention 1179 times in the bible!  Our very salvation is predicated on a Word.

Powerful!  In fact God’s Word also declares that, “He that rejects Me, and receives not My words, has one that judges him: the Word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. (John 12:48)

We are as close to God as our next breath and as near as His Word that we have hidden in our hearts.  How do folks become acquainted?  By spending time together… fellowshipping.  Sharing, Listening, talking.  Over time, trust is built and love is deepened. The same holds true for our relationship with God, and a added benefit (as if that weren’t enough by itself) is a promise Jesus made that ~

If you abide in Me, and My Words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done for you

[John 15:7]

But what does it say? The Word is near you, even in your mouth, and in your heart: that is, the Word of faith, which we preach; That if you shall confess with your mouth the LORD JESUS, and shall believe in your heart that GOD has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.  For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

“Clean”

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, That He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
[Ephesians 5:25-27]

Good Afternoon Beloved,

Happy Friday!I’m not accepting any Friday the 13th craziness.  This is the day that the Lord has made, so I’ve decided to follow the Psalmist and rejoice and be glad in it.  It’s raining cats, dogs, birds and some more, but I’ve determined not to let a little thing like rain steal my joy… God is too good.  Walking through the rain to work today, I started thinking about what God said about cleansing.  Now, most people use Ephesians 5 when they are talking about married people.  My focus was on Jesus.  The first thing that got my attention was that Jesus loves the church.  That is the most important part. Everything else rests on that love.  His laws, His precepts, His commandments, all stem from His love for us.  The other thing that caught my attention, was the verse that talked about what HE would do.   Always keep in mind that we are in covenant with God.  A covenant is like a contract.  Each party agrees to the terms of their individual ‘parts’ of the agreement.  In this instance, Jesus takes on the responsibility of purifying us.  Preparing us to be presented to Him “spotless”.  Whoa!  Now that is really something.  If you’re like me, you probably don’t think that you’re a ‘bad’ person, however, you know that you are no where near ‘spotless’.  If we’re honest we know that we have a few spots, wrinkles, tears, holes, scratches, but Jesus promises to work out all of that through His Word.  When His Word becomes ‘real’ in us, it will change us.
